About JoAnn

JoAnn is a 26-year law enforcement veteran, educator, and long-standing resident of Alameda County. She is an award-winning volunteer Suicide Prevention Crisis Counselor and a 2016 recipient of the U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Community Policing. She has received Certificates of Appreciation from former and elected officials in San Francisco, including the Hon. Nancy Pelosi, former Mayor Ed Lee, former Senator Mark Leno, and former Supervisor David Chiu.

JoAnn’s law enforcement career with the San Francisco Police Department includes working as a Terrorism Liaison Officer, Community Relations Unit Liaison, Station Keeper, Field Training Officer, Peer Support Counselor, Academy Instructor, Captain Problem Solving Team Member, and Healthy Streets Operation Center Liason. JoAnn has developed and conducts training for law enforcement professionals in subjects such as Hate Crimes, Tactical Communications, and Crisis Support/Suicide Prevention.

Her long experience with crisis support and suicide prevention gives her a unique perspective on what citizens in Alameda County are asking of its Sheriff's Department.
